On 7th September, A celebration ceremony of “The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star” awarded by the Government of Japan to Mr. Abul Kalam Azad, former Principal Coordinator (SDGs) to the Prime Minister’s Office, President of Bangladesh Scouts, was held at the official residence of H.E. Mr. ITO Naoki, Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh, in recognition of his great contribution to strengthening economic relations between Japan and Bangladesh.
At the ceremony, Ambassador ITO expressed his sincere appreciation to Mr. Azad for longstanding contribution to promoting economic relations between Japan and Bangladesh.
“I would like to express my heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Abul Kalam Azad. Mr. Azad’s achievements and contributions to Japan-Bangladesh relations are remarkable. I am particularly pleased that we are able to celebrate Mr. Azad’s conferment in the year of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Bangladesh.” said Ambassador ITO.
On 10 May 2022, Prime Minister, Mr. Fumio KISHIDA, conferred Mr. Azad "the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star" in Tokyo. The ceremonial presentation was graced at the Imperial Palace by His Majesty the Emperor of Japan in recognition of the awardee’s long and exceptionally meritorious service.
Specifically, He contributed to the Japanese development projects in Bangladesh under the Initiative of BIG-B (The Bay of Bengal Industrial Growth Belt) as a promoter within the government from the conceptual stage and laid the foundations for the strong development partnership between Japan and Bangladesh. Bangladesh became the world's largest recipient of yen-loan today.
Mr. Azad also co-chaired the Japan-Bangladesh Public-Private Economic Dialogue (PPED) with the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry of Japan from 2014 to 2019. Public and private sector leaders from Bangladesh and Japan joined several meetings held in Tokyo and Dhaka.
His leadership through PPED enhanced public and private investment from Japan to Bangladesh, and Japan acknowledged Bangladesh as the attractive place for investment today.
